Sports Rehabilitation

Certified Staff

Larissa Sorrells, PT, DPT, ATC is a certified athletic trainer as well as a doctor of physical therapy. She understands the demand sports place on the body, and ensures athletes are ready to take on the challenge when returning to the sports they love. She has the ability to help patients return to upper level agility and power. Without specialty training, many physical therapists lack the knowledge to help athletes return to their prior level in this area. Larissa also treats concussion symptoms and helps physicians guide return to learn and return to play guidelines.

Her experience includes several years on the sideline as the athletic trainer for high school football, rehab experience with athletes of all ages including grade school to collegiate, weekend warriors, and elderly athletes. She has experience with almost every sport including football, basketball, baseball, volleyball, soccer, track and field, swimming, cheerleading, gymnastics, wrestling, marathon runners, ice hockey, dancers and more.

Larissa understands the unique demand for female athletes as well and does specialized training for injury prevention during rehabilitation.

Larissa's results with athletes are head and shoulders above the competition because of her experience and knowledge in this area. Don't trust your athletes with anyone else for their return to play rehab!

Overhead athletes

Larissa comes from a baseball family. She is the daughter and grand-daughter of hall of fame high school baseball coaches, and played college softball and volleyball. She understands the biomechanics involved in throwing, hitting, swinging and creating powerful movements. Her philosophy centers around proximal stability of the core and scapula, leading to improved mobility of the rotational areas of the body required for overhead power.

Lower body rehabilitation in sport

Larissa is able to help athletes return to play quickly due to her experience with every step of the injury process. She has evaluated injuries on the field and helped that same injury rehab all the way to return to play. She treats post-surgical patients, non-surgical sprains and strains, pain without injuries (ex: knee pain with jumping), and more! Her approach is to treat the heart of the issue, which will decrease time wasted on things that aren't necessary in the return to play process. This allows athletes to return as quickly as possible.

Safety in returning to play

Larissa prides herself on utilizing a thorough assessment to be sure athletes are safe on the field and court. She is able to assess all aspects of the sport because of her wide background working with almost every sport. She knows the type of movements required for each sport and can rehab based on that difference. This allows her to treat each athlete as an individual, understanding the demand that will be put on their joints and muscles, and preparing the body for every step of the journey when they return to their sport.
